| How it all Began My family went to a cookout with some friends and there were some puppies there. My daughter fell in love with the puppies and began to beg for one of those little dogs. My answer was no. I did not want a dog in the house or one outside for that matter. I worked full time and just did not have time to care for a dog. After we left, she continued to beg and cry for a puppy. The answer continued to be no. She began to pray for God to change our minds. This went on for about a week. So, one night my husband and me were sitting out on our front porch. We could see a dog walking down our street in the dark. The dog came right up our driveway and hopped up on our porch like she new exactly where she was going. I have no idea what kind of dog she was but she was small and seemed to be very old. She was starving and the ribs were showing. She looked so pitiful. I could not help but feel sorry for her, so I went in to fix her something to eat. My daughter came out to see her and begged us to keep her. I told her we would have to see if we could find her owner first. A few days passed and she continued to live on our porch. I would go to work each day and when I came home she would be laying there on my wicker couch on the porch. No one claimed her so Dad finally agreed we could keep her because he felt sorry for her also. So I made an appointment with the vet to have her checked out and get her shots. What should we name our new little pet? My daughter thought for only a moment and she replied: “I have prayed for weeks for God to soften your hearts and allow me to have a dog. It seemed you would never change until this helpless animal came up. I think she was sent by God and it is by God’s grace that your heart has been softened and it is by God’s grace that this dog has found a home where she will be fed and loved.” So, we named her Grace and officially decided we would keep her. Her vet appointment was the next day. However, when we got up the next morning Grace was gone. We could not find her anywhere. We never saw Grace again. My daughter and I were deeply saddened by her disappearance. My daughter again began to beg for another dog. So, we started the hunt for a dog. We purchased our first dog, Molly. She is a beautiful Poodle..We enjoyed her so much and she brought so much love and joy into our household we decided we wanted another dog. Then we purchased our first Yorkshire Terrier, Casey. We fell in love with her and her breed. Suddenly, I changed from a person that did not want anything to do with an animal in my house to one of the biggest dog lovers you will ever meet. They are just like my children. So I decided to breed my pets so that they could bring more love and joy to other families the way they have to my family. I was only going to breed them for fun. But once we had a couple of litters, I fell in love with the whole breeding process. Raising those precious puppies from their first day of life turned out to be one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. And I don't mean money. The pleasure of watching these babies grow has given me so much happiness. I enjoyed this so much, I decided to continue with breeding.. I enjoy every day with all my dogs and cuddle with the puppies daily. My dogs are loved dearly and very well cared for. So my Yorkie business is in honor of Grace, the little angel that hopped up on my porch that night. If she had not come to visit us that night I still would not have a dog and would be missing out on all the joy they have and are bringing me at this time. My goal as a breeder is not to make money. I’m lucky to break even. After I pay all the vet bills, heartworm & flea medication, and the food for my babies (not to mention the long sleepless nights spent tending to the puppies) there is usually not much of a profit. This is more of a hobby rather than a business. My goal is to let my babies bring love and joy to good homes that need a little extra love in it. Dogs will teach you a lot about life if you take the time to spend with them. It has been proven they will lower your blood pressure. If you take the time to slow down in this fast paced life and let a dog sit on your lap, you will find rest and relaxation. If you take the time to sit and watch puppies play, you will find laughter. Dogs can heal a broken heart by offering you their unfaltering love for you. Their love is unconditional and they are loyal companions. |
